Last Call: 2018 in Photos

A year alongside Kimbra, Interpol, Dessa, Matthew Dear, and more.

For the past ten years, taking pictures has been the pulse of my beating heart. Picking up a camera fills my mind with wonder and creativity. When I first started, all I wanted to do was break down the barrier between the artists on stage and myself. Even though they were only an arms reach away, it felt like we were worlds apart. After many years, I finally got my chance when asked to shoot portraits of Hudson Mohawke. That turned everything on its head, and suddenly the barrier was gone.

As I've transitioned into a business, things have gotten more serious. I've started to feel a noticeable weight when taking on projects. Last December, when doing an end-of-the-year review of myself, I thought back to when I started: the ignorant, worry-free, not-taking-no-for-an-answer approach of my formative years. This year, I made a promise to myself by separating the weight of business from the pleasure of creativity. It felt invigorating, inspiring, and led to some of my favorite collaborations. I finally worked alongside Slowdive and Astronautalis. I reunited with Beacon, Bully, and Buck 65, and got to document a tribute show in honor of Alias, an experience that was very special to me.

As 2019 starts to peek its head around the corner, I think back to last December and that promise: the simple promise of fun.
